An online petition has been started to see that Gloucester City Captain Tom Webb, and current record-appearance holder Stan Myers, are made Freemen of the City of Gloucester when Webb makes his 414th appearance and breaks the record.
Webb, 26, is currently on 402 appearances and made his debut in 2001 as a 16 year old, since when he has remained with the Tigers and was made captain at the beginning of last season. Myers, 81 and still residing in Gloucester, made 413 appearances from 1950-1960 and was part of the legendary Southern League Cup winning side of 1956.
Petition organiser Matthew Phillips explained what motivated him:
To be with a club for ten years and make over 400 appearances is as remarkable in this day and age as it was in the 1950s, and I thought it would be a great way for the City to show some recognition to the outstanding contribution that these two Gloucester men have made to local sport.
