Eastwood Town: 1 (Muller 37)
Gloucester City: 2 (Mullings 31, Morford 51)
The Tigers mauled the Badgers once again as Gloucester recorded their first away victory of the season.
Goals from Darren Mullings and Will Morford saw City move into eighth place in the Blue Square North table.
With the home side seemingly content to spend the match kicking the ball out of Coronation Park as many times as possible Gloucester showed composure and patience in a game which saw more throw ins than Eastwood passes.
Eastwood’s Lee Stevenson, playing out of position on the left wing, showed pace but did not appear to be aware of the boundaries on the pitch, constantly running the ball over the white line.
Adam Muller had an early chance but his run on goal was blocked by Mike Green, it was followed by a City break with Darren Mullings rattling the woodwork.
City took the lead just after the half hour mark with a well practiced corner which harked back to their Southern League days, Darren Mullings ran onto a Tom Parrinello corner and sliced the ball down the middle of the pitch past John Danby.
But the lead was short lived, six minutes later Mike Green’s short clearance was caught by Stevenson who crossed into Adam Muller, free in space, and he slotted it past Kev Sawyer, scoring with Eastwood’s only real attempt on goal of the half.
Tom Hamblin left the pitch injured shortly before the break, replaced by Ollie Barnes.
Only Stevenson and Sam Duncum were creating chances for Eastwood but more often than not these were squandered by poor passing or simply kicked out of play. Gloucester meanwhile looked stronger and settled with the front pair of Mike Symons and Will Morford finding space and holding up the ball well.
The second half saw more of Eastwood’s poor passing but a flurry of corners and throw ins at either end kept each keeper busy. Kev Sawyer’s safe hands caught everything heading into his box, save for one effort from a corner where he was pushed in the back for a free kick.
City took the lead with a superb goal from Will Morford, the result of great build up play from the Gloucester midfield. Mike Symons collected a throw in from Mike Tambling and laid it off to Tom Parrinello. Morford took the pass on his chest, stepped past Russell Cooke and shot early and low past Danby.
Departing defender Marc Richards almost scored a leaving goal when he rattled the woodwork on 70 minutes.
Eastwood never looked like a danger after City’s second goal as the Tigers now enjoy the dizzy heights of the top ten for the first time in their Blue Square North career.
