Mitcheldean SC Ladies FC announce that they have forged a link with Dene Magna School in Mitcheldean.
Following a very successful meeting with the school, brokered by the Gloucestershire FA; team manager Phil Ellaway will be attending the school to provide coaching to year 7/8 pupils; and after Christmas also a session aimed at year 10/11 pupils as well.
Phil Ellaway said “We had asked the GFA to help us approach schools, to try to build links betwen us and schools. We don’t have a Girls section in the Club at the moment; and we are looking to attract younger players to the team”. He added “Womens and girls football is the fastest growing sport in the Country; and we would like to be part of that growth. The effects of exercise are obviously very benficial to youngsters; the school currently offer football as a sport for girls, so hopefully with our involvement we can encourage the girls to keep playing football as they get older”.
Mitcheldean Ladies were already using the schools sports hall on a Thursday evening.
Mitcheldean SC Ladies play in Division 2 of the County Womens Football League; if there is enough support from the girls, it may be possible that the Club will enter an under 14/15 team in the Girls League next season. Could the next Kelly Smith be studying at Dene Magna School?
