Norwood may return for Braintree trip

FOREST Green Rovers return to action after the international break when the Black & Whites take on Braintree Town at the Amlin Stadium in Essex on Saturday (3pm).

Dave Hockaday’s men will be looking to kick on from their three successive league victories against a Braintree side that has enjoyed a bright start to life in the Blue Square Bet Premier after promotion from the Blue Square South last season.

Braintree, managed by former West Ham United and England international midfielder, Alan Devonshire, have already come face to face with Rovers this season when they visited The New Lawn and picked up an impressive 2-0 win in August.

However ‘The Iron’ have only one victory in their last eight outings, with that one win coming over Darlington at the end of October.

Front man Sean Marks as well as midfielders Andy Yiadom and Jai Reason have each contributed seven league goals this season whilst Rovers supporters will be more than aware of the threat of Ben Wright who once fired a hat-trick past Rovers whilst on loan at Hayes & Yeading United.

Forest Green hope to have James Norwood available for selection as the speedy attacker has made good progress following surgery on his hernia whilst new loan signing Jonathan Bond is also up for selection.

FGR Manager Dave Hockaday said: “The team had a good result last time out winning 4-1 against Alfreton Town.

“So James Norwood is the only possible addition to the squad. He trained yesterday (Thursday) and we’ll have another look at him today (Friday). He had the hernia operation a month ago and it’s a four weeks healing process, so we may see him on the bench.”

Long term absentees Reece Styche, Chris Todd and Curtis McDonald continue to miss out however as do the likes of Callum Henry and Matt Bulman.

The FGR Supporters Club are running a coach to the game and places are filling up fast so supporters need to contact Sam Reid to book a seat on 01666 5055 19.
