Gloucester City 2 – 0 Eastwood Town

Gloucester City eased past Eastwood with a comfortable 2-0 win.

Goals from Will Morford and Adam Mann sealed the Tigers’ mauling of the Badgers, who are struggling in the drop zone.

In a turgid first half City had several chances to go ahead, with Darren Mullings and Matt Lock playing a quick passing game in the middle.

Jack Harris at left back saw more time on the ball than during last week’s defensive battle against Hyde and once again looked back to his battling best as he played the ball forward.

But Eastwood looked dangerous on the break with Greg Simmons forcing a from Lewis Carey with a rocket shot on 21 minutes.

Adam Mann fired over the bar moments later as City looked for an early goal.

It was Carey’s opposite number Ian Deakin who seemed to have the most time on the ball in the first 45minutes as he took increasingly long to take his goal kicks, kicking divots out of the pristine Whaddon Road surface.

Mullings volleyed a shot over the bar on 28 minutes after collecting a blocked shot from Tom Webb, before Mann had another chance on goal.

On the half hour mark Darren Edwards headed the ball over the bar as Gloucester harassed Deakin. Mullings, Lock and Edwards all had further chances before the break.

Having looked dominant in the first half it didn’t take long for City to go ahead. With sub Steve Davies on, for Tom Webb, Lock moved into the centre allowing him and Mullings to control the game from midfield.

Morford bagged his 14th goal of the season with typical class, firing in a volley from outside the box after collecting a clearance from a corner on 56 minutes.

Four minutes later Darren Edwards battled through the defence and found Adam Mann who slotted it past Deakin for his first goal of the season.

Gloucester could have had more in the remainder of the game, Davies inches shy of the goal on 78 minutes, Edwards just over the bar on 81 and Lock firing into the stands on 86.

But with a two goal buffer zone never looking in doubt they ran down the clock for a comfortable win.
