Cirencester Town 1 – 3 Swindon Supermarine

The first ten minutes of this local derby was frantic and it was obvious that no team was prepared to give an inch due to both teams being at the bottom of the division, this was a big six pointer.
In the 13th minute a long ball was pumped up to Jody Bevan his pass found Scott Griffin in between two defenders, Scott’s right footed shot found the left hand corner of the net to give ciren the lead.
Jamie Reid was making good impact for Ciren in midfield, and after good work he was bought down with a heavy tackle by Danny Allen earning him a yellow card, in the 20th minute from a corner Mike Hedges made a great one handed save from 5 yards.
In the 39th minute a good run down the left from Ellis Dunton finished off with a left footed shot which was just over the bar, Supermarine continued to press for the equaliser and in the 43rd minute from a corner Ross Adam hit the bar with a powerful header, Reid after good possession was bought down with another poor tackle by Rob Dean resulting in a second yellow card for Supermarine.
The second half started pretty much like the first with end to end play, a quick break down the left saw Ben Wells cross to the back post Hedges made a fantastic save from a point blank shot.
In the 66th minute in a goal mouth scramble the ball found its way into the Cirencester net, Supermarine’s confidence seemed to grow after this breakthrough, within 5 minutes Ciren made a change bringing on Paul Banks for Bevan.
After 71 minutes a deflection by Jamie Dunn gave the visitors a corner from the right, Wells’ corner found Harry Etheridge whose powerful header found the back of the net,
Ciren battled hard looking for the equaliser in this tough derby match, but in the 82nd minute, in another goal mouth scramble the ball once again found its way into the back of the Ciren goal.
With less than 10 minutes to play Cirencester gave their all, but the visitors had no intention of resting on their 3-1 lead and battled to keep it to the final whistle.
With a crowd of approx.150, there were great hopes for a Ciren win after recent performances, it just seemed that Supermarine wanted the win that little bit more!
