FA Cup: Bishops Cleeve 2 – 2 Ascot United (match abandoned after 81mins)

The Villagers had the majority of the possession for the first 45 minutes, they took the lead after 14 minutes when Michael Davis put a well weighted ball through for Michael Tambling to run on to, he cut into the penalty area and slotted the ball under the advancing Chris Grace. Ascot had a good opportunity when the Cleeve defence failed to deal with a long ball that ran kindly for Lee Boon and fortunately for the Villagers he lost footing with only James Nortei to beat. The Villagers doubled the lead in the 40th minute a long cross field ball by Adam Mace found Lamin Sankoh who ran on to the ball and his low shot beat Grace at his near post.

The second half began in heavy rain and the Ascot long ball game came into its’ own. Dave Hoar picked out Jack Smillie on the edge of the penalty area but first time shot went well wide. James Brazier sent Lewis Frostick clear but his effort was straight at Nortei. Ascot pulled one back when Dave Hoar put the ball over the Cleeve defence and his first time shot went across Nortei and into the corner of the net.

As the rain intensified Grace’s fly kick from the edge of his penalty area caught the Cleeve defence flat footed and Lee Boon ran on to it to toe poke the ball over the advancing Nortei. With 9 minutes the remaining the field of play was under water and the Referee abandoned the match. It will be replayed on Wednesday 29th August 7.30 p.m.
