Mitcheldean Ladies FC will be joining the ranks of Barcelona by wearing a kit with no sponsor for the coming season.
Instead the strip will bear a poignant tribute to the team’s late manager Jer Randall.
The kit, which will be revealed before the game on Sunday July 25 against Oldland Abbotonians; at
Mitcheldean Playing Fields, features words “In memory of Jer” in place of a logo.
Jer Randall was the manager of the team who died suddenly at the age of 48 during last season. It is hoped Jer’s
family will be in attendance at the game.
Newly appointed Manager Phil Ellaway is inviting potential new players to come down and watch the game which kicks off at 2pm.
“Any ladies over the age of 16 who are interested in playing football; can either come to the game or
come to training at Mitcheldean Playing Fields on a Thursday evening starting at 6.30, or contact me directly on 07792 891999,” he said.
Mitcheldean Ladies are currently in Division 2 of the Women;s County League; their opponents Oldland Abbotonians are in the Premier Division of the South West Women’s League; so sit three steps higher in the pyramid than Mitcheldean; so manager Ellaway is looking to experiment with a new playing system for the team/
“We want to try something different with the team; which may help us defensively,” he said.
The new season for Mitcheldean kicks off on September 5 with a home game against Ellaway’s old club Abbeymead Rovers; “There will be no sentiment with that game, we will just be looking to win the game and
start the season off with three points,” he said.
