Not many could argue with the impact Alex Sykes has had on the recent history of some of Gloucestershire’s biggest non league football clubs, writes Richard Joyce.

The Staffordshire born midfielder has enjoyed huge success since his arrival in the county as a student at the University of Gloucestershire after turning down a week to week contract at Football League side Mansfield Town, the club where he made his one and only Football League appearance, slamming in a spectacular edge of the box effort on his debut against Walsall.

Wimborne Town 0-4 Bishops Cleeve

Cleeve made the long trip to Dorest worthwhile by crushing Wimborne. Assitant Manager Alex Sykes opened the scoring on 24 to leave Cleeve with an advantage heading into half time. Mark Pritchett added a second on 60 minutes and Wimborne began to leave gaps at the back as they were forced to chase the game. …

Colicutt re-signs two for Bideford clash

Bishop’s Cleeve boss Paul Colicutt has re-signed Matt Collins from Shortwood ahead of tommorow’s Zamaretto clash against Bideford Town. Cleeve are without Julian Assop and Ashley Caldwell but they also welcome back James Bayliffe and Marvin Thompson.

Bishops Cleeve 2 – 1 Cheltenham Town

A goal from Kevin Slack on four minutes put the Villagers ahead against a youthful Cheltenham Town XI. Julian Alsop, playing against his former club, helped set up Slack’s second minutes into the second half. A later goal from Josh Klein-Davies on 86 minutes gave Cheltenham a chance but Cleeve won the bragging rights.

Caldwell signs for Cleeve

Former Bath City midfielder Ashley Caldwell has signed for Bishop’s Cleeve ahead of tonight’s clash with Cheltenham Town. The youngster is a former pupil of Cleeve assistant manager Alex Sykes and has appeared in most of the Villagers pre-season fixtures.
